wooosh...time is flying by!! I just realized I have been in Taiwan for almost 13 days now!! The entire time has been so busy, that I haven't really had a chance to sit back and soak it all in. I ended up signing a contract to work in Tainan for 10 days, have a 5 day break, then work at another camp for 4 days before heading home.
Today is the last day in Tainan, then I will head to Taipei and meet up with the other foreign teachers there...most of everyone else in Taiwan will be with there families celebrating Chinese New Years.
We have had some DRAMA here...a few of my friends have heard me say that I had to share a room with a crazy girl...part of the agreement in the camp was that I had to share a hotel room with my co teacher...which is fine...but she really had a sickness...either OCD, depression, bi polar...or maybe even multiple personality disorder. She would take shower after shower in a row..spending 2-3 hours in the bathroom, wash her hands 150 times a day, make up stories, argue, cry, and was constantly moving around. Two days before the camp ended, she flipped...her mood changed every few minutes, and she was very unstable to talk with and said a
lot of random comments that made no sense. We went back to the hotel and I moved out all my stuff into my friends room. We were both scared to death of her because we knew she was insane..and so did the other teachers..so for of us in a 2 person room...so crammed! Thankfully, she was sent home the next day...and the boss invited me to come work at his camp in Thailand in July....hurray!!
We went to the night market the day before camp ended, and ate so much good food. I did take some pics of the interesting things I found...including chicken legs and squid sticks (EEEWW!!). I asked my girlfriend the low down on the chick legs...and she said its common for people to munch on them because its good for your skin..???...hmmm, I will pass.
In class today we taught students about money...and had a fake auction. The kids loved it! And many of the kids in my class put their money together to buy the expensive toys, good friends!
I am so in love...so far...with my new experiences. I have absolutely no regrets with my decisions, have already learned so much, made some really great friends, ate some great food (and not so good food!), and am really looking forward to the next year. I accepted the short term camp job in Thailand I was offered, so will teach there during summer break from the public school job in Korea...Will write more later, off to say goodbye to my kids!
