Today was the first of teaching in the class, it was an exhausting day!! School is in Tainan, which is south of Taipei. We started at 6:30 a.m for a meeting then headed to the school to set up. The kids arrived at 8 for an oral test that I was in charge of, then were off to their main classes. The set up a lot more reliant on us western teachers, i didn't realize that I had to pretty much make up most of my own lessons!! Thankfully I was paired with a co teacher who had taught in the camp before, so he has been helping a lot!!
I was told that I have a student in my class who is the president's son, son...Rex-he is my favorite of the students!! So cute! Many of the students are very curious as to where I am from and what I do back home. I taught mostly basic lessons today, followed by many breaks and a nap! It is mandatory, that every school gives their students a nap-even in high school. The teachers even nap with the students...strange.
After school, my co teachers wanted to show me around Tainan. They are SO friendly, as we walked around town they wanted me to try everything, and asked me hundreds of questions about the US. We grabbed food at a street vendor in an alley, I was told it was a hidden treasure. I learned on my first day that when you order chicken, you might get chicken brain or when you order pig, you might get pig intestine so I have been telling everyone I am vegan for safety measures. That still doesn't work, after having my co teacher order me vegan rice, I was handed a plate of rice covered in pig liver. Umm...
After dinner we roamed around the city checking out some other sites, and of course, grabbed bubble tea!!!
