Gotta love the smell of the largest outdoor fish market in Seoul after a long night out in Itawaen! Last Sunday a group of friends and I decided to wonder around the largest fish market here, the Noryangjin market which is jointly owned by the Department of Agriculture and the Foresty and Fisheries. The market is sprawled out over 66,000 square meters and there are over 700 shops that are full of slimy, alive, creepy looking fishes, squids, crabs, lobsters...and even some nasty looking intestine thing that moves. Walking through the market we totally felt like stars, as we passed the shops most of the men and even some of the woman wanted to shake our hands, and two of them even hugged me!
Pretty much all of the sea creatures you purchase here are alive, and sold at cheap prices where buyers can have their freshly purchased goodies cooked and served to them on site. My friends picked up a fresh crab, baby ocotopus where they snacked on the moving tenacles, salmon, and a few other items.
Sadly I am not much of a fish eater, so although this place was like seafood eaters paradise, I simply just sat in amazement as my friends chowed down on the Sannakji (baby live tennacles) ewww...
We ended our Sunday at a small cozy cafe hidden away in Itawaen and had Belguim Chocolate Mochas, Iced Chai Tea, fresh Americanos, and the best waffle covered with ice cream and berries ever. Did I die last night!?
PS Did I say I love Korea!
